LAS VEGAS - Theo Hardy hit a grand slam and recorded five hits over two games to lead the San José State baseball team (4-7, 1-2 Mountain West) in an 8-7 loss and a 16-13 win at UNLV (9-2, 2-1 Mountain West) on Sunday.
GAME ONE - UNLV 8 SJSU 7
- Hardy and Nathan Cadena each recorded two hits.
- Hunter Dorraugh produced an RBI triple.
- Right-handed pitcher Cade Van Allen tossed 2.0 innings and registered five strikeouts.
- Left-handed pitcher Micky Thompson started the game and completed 5.0 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out five.
- Sebastian Orduno reached base safely three times as he went 1-for-3 with a pair of walks.
- The Spartans scored six runs in the sixth inning after being down 6-1.
GAME TWO - SJSU 16 UNLV 13
- The Spartans hit a home run in each of the first three innings and blasted five home runs in the game.
- Robert Hamchuk went 3-for-4 with two walks and was a triple away from the cycle. He opened the contest with a leadoff home run.
- Hardy led the Spartans with five RBIs as he finished 3-for-6 with a single, a double and a grand slam.
- Cadena collected two hits, one of which was a solo home run in the second inning.
- The Spartans' all-time home run leader, Dorraugh, launched the 28th of his career when he connected on a three-run shot in the sixth inning.
- Dorraugh, Jeriah Lewis and Jackson Forbes each picked up two hits.
- Dalton Bowling crushed a solo home run in the ninth inning.
- LHP Jesse Gutierrez earned the win as he threw 3.0 innings of relief, allowing only one run and striking out three.
- RHP Keaton Chase pitched 3.0 innings and surrendered only two runs on two hits.
- The Spartans tallied five runs in both the third and the sixth inning.
- SJSU outhit UNLV, 15-11.
