SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State men's basketball team (9-21, 2-15 Mountain West) will battle the No. 22 Utah State Aggies (24-5, 12-4 Mountain West) on Wednesday March 6 on CBS Sports Network and KTRB 860 AM. LAST TIME OUT

  • The Spartans fell 68-50 at UNLV on Saturday night.
  • Alvaro Cardenas led the Spartans with 17 points, shooting an efficient 6-for-9 from the field and 3-for-4 from 3-point range.
  • Myron (MJ) Amey Jr. grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
  • Amey Jr. and Trey Anderson each dished out four assists. The four assists for T. Anderson tied his career high.
  • T. Anderson played the entire 40 minutes.
  • The Spartans went on a 9-0 run in the second half and were only outscored by three in the frame.
  • The Spartans did not substitute in the second half as Cardenas, Amey Jr., T. Anderson, Latrell Davis and Tibet Görener played all 20 minutes together.
  • SJSU forced 19 turnovers by UNLV which is the most by a Mountain West opponent against the Spartans this season.

SEASON NOTABLES

  • The Spartans are 5-0 when shooting over 50 percent this season. The five opponents against whom they have shot over 50 percent are Bethesda, Norfolk State, New Orleans, Santa Clara and Air Force.
  • The Spartans are second in the Mountain West Conference in 3-pointers made per game at 8.50, behind only Air Force.
  • Cardenas is 36th and 49th in Division I in assists per game (5.3) and assist/turnover ratio (2.58). In the conference, he is sixth and fifth in the two categories.
  • Adrame Diongue is third in the conference in blocks per game at 1.46.
  • In three of the last four games, Davis scored in double figures. The freshman guard produced a career-high 20 points against Wyoming, 17 points versus Nevada and 13 points at San Diego State. He shot 50 percent or better in all three contests.

RECORD WATCH

  • Görener is the Spartans’ all-time leader in made 3-pointers with 167.
  • Cardenas and T. Anderson also rank inside the top 10 in program history for most 3-pointers. Cardenas is sixth and T. Anderson is eighth.
  • Cardenas ranks sixth all-time for most career assists at SJSU with 356. Omari Moore (2020-23) is fifth with 429. 
  • T. Anderson ranks fourth in school history in 3-point percentage (among players who have played in at least 50 games and averaged one or more 3-point attempts per game). His career mark from beyond the arc is 39.9 percent, connecting on 124 of 311 attempts.

VS. UTAH STATE 

  • The Utah State Aggies are on a three-game winning streak with wins over No. 21 San Diego State, Fresno State and Air Force.
  • The Aggies defeated the Spartans 82-61 on Jan. 30.
  • Myron (MJ) Amey Jr. led the Spartans with 14 points in the game.
  • The Spartans are 23-70 all-time against the Aggies.
