SJSU Hosts The Silicon Valley Classic II This Weekend

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State softball (6-8, 0-0 Mountain West) hosts the Silicon Valley Classic II tournament this weekend starting Friday from Spartan Softball Stadium and most of the games can be seen on the Mountain West Network and tickets can be found here.

SJSU SCHEDULE (Spartan Softball Stadium)

  • Friday at 3:00 p.m. vs. Iowa (6-5, 0-0 Big 10) (Mountain West Network)
  • Friday at 5:30 p.m. vs. CSU Bakersfield (2-13, 0-0 Big West) (Mountain West Network)
  • Saturday at 12:30 p.m. vs. NDSU (10-12, 0-0 Summit) (Mountain West Network)
  • Saturday at 3:00 p.m. vs. No. 6 Stanford (14-4, 0-0 Pac-12) (Mountain West Network)

NEWS AND NOTES

  • Reina Zermeno hit .533 with eight hits, six RBIs, six runs scored, four doubles, a home run, had two stolen bases including stealing home on Saturday, plus had a 1.000 slugging pct. and a .533 on base pct. in the five games of the Judi Garman Classic (03/01-03) earning her Mountain West Player of the Week honors (03/04) for the first time in her career and the second time for the Spartans this season.
  • Zermeno is second in the MW with a .462 batting average, fourth in the MW with a .795 slugging pct and fifth in the MW with a .500 on base pct, plus has only struck out twice this season in 39 at-bats and is on a team best nine-game hitting streak.
  • Zermeno ended the SVC I (02/16-18) batting .545 with a 1.000 slugging pct. and a .615 on-base pct. Zermeno also had one home run, one triple, five RBIs, six hits, four runs scored and didn't strikeout in 11 at-bats.
  • Lacie Ham in the SVC I (02/16-18) pitched 12.1 innings with a 0.57 ERA and earned two victories while striking out seven earning her Mountain West Pitcher of the Week honors (02/19) for the first time in her career.
  • Oregon State transfer Shay McDowell impressed during the NorCal Kickoff (02/09-11) hitting .455 with five hits, two doubles, one home run, one run scored, three RBIs, 10 total bases and had a slugging pct. of .909.

NEXT GAME:

  • The Spartans open up Mountain West play hosting New Mexico in a three-game series starting on March 15 at 6:00 p.m. from Spartan Softball Stadium.
