Bats Get Hot as Spartans Top Tigers in Stockton

STOCKTON, Calif. –  Aubrie Thomas and Reina Zermeno had perfect days at the plate to lead San José State softball (13-20, 3-7 MW) as they took down the Tigers of Pacific (11-26, 0-0 WCC) 9-1 in five innings in this midweek non-conference matchup from Bill Simoni Field on Wednesday.

The Spartans got on the board early against the Tigers scoring all nine runs in the first two innings. After two hits from A. Thomas and Zermeno, Ahmiya Noriega hit a bases clearing double to put the Spartans up by two runs in the first. The next inning the bats stayed hot and put up a seven spot in the second after two RBI knocks from A. Thomas, Zermeno and Makenzie Hutchinson. Also in the second, Shay McDowell added an RBI single of her own.  

  • Zermeno went 3-for-3 at the plate with two doubles, two RBIs, two runs scored.
  • Zermeno’s three hits tied her single game season high. 
  • Zermeno’s two doubles also tied a single game season high for the sophomore.
  • A. Thomas went 2-for-2 with two singles, two runs scored and two RBIs. 
  • Ah. Noriega went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, a double and one run scored.  
  • Noriega also made a diving catch over her shoulder to keep the bases clear in the bottom of the first 
  • McDowell went 1-for-2 with one RBI single and one run scored.
  • Hutchinson was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. 
  • Korie Thomas went 1-for-3 with a hit and one run scored. 
  • Haley Reeve went 1-for-3 with a single. 
  • Mia Reynolds got the start and the win going 4 IP giving up only one run, six hits and two walks  
  • The Spartan bats came alive and had a team OPS of 1.201 in this game.  

NEXT GAME: The Spartans will return home to resume conference action and play host to San Diego State for a weekend three game series beginning on Friday, April 12. The game will start at 6:00 p.m. PDT from Spartan Softball Stadium. All three games can be seen on the Mountain West Network.
