Muradyan Double Winner For Spartans Against UNLV

SAN JOSE, Calif.—Irena Muradyan went 2-0 on the day, winning at both singles and doubles, but the San José State women’s tennis team (12-6, 3-4) fell just short to UNLV, 4-3, Friday afternoon at the Spartan Tennis Complex.

  • Muradyan and Cheuk Ying Shek, won the only doubles match for SJSU, 6-4.
  • Muradyan then won in straight sets, 6-3 and 6-3, to get the first point for the Spartans on the day after UNLV took the doubles point.
  • Rozalina Youseva won her singles match, 6-2, 7-5, to give SJSU the 2-1 lead in the contest.
  • Jovana Babic needed three sets to win 6-1, 0-6, 6-2.
  • Carolina Milan went to tiebreakers in both her sets before falling 7-6 (7-3) and 7-6 (9-7).
  • After falling 6-0 in the first set, Olaya Igelsias rallied in the second set and went to a tiebreaker before losing 7-6 (7-4).
  • The match came down to the number-three singles where Cheuk Ying Shek won the first set 6-3, fell 3-6 and lost the final set 6-4.

UP NEXT – The Spartans finish the home portion of the schedule on Sunday with a Mountain West match against Utah State beginning at noon inside the Spartan Tennis Complex. The Spartans will honor four graduating seniors after Sunday's match: Jovana Babic, Carolina Millan, Irena Muradyan and Rozalina Youseva.
