Spartans Take Down Wolf Pack In Final Game of Series

RENO, Nev. – Matt Spear hit a homerun for the second-straight game, and Theo Hardy sent his fifth over the wall as San José State (13-23, 8-10 MW) knocked off Nevada (14-17, 9-8 MW) 6-3 to close out the three-game series on Sunday afternoon.

  • Spear hit a three-run homerun in the top of the sixth inning to give the Spartans a 4-0 lead.
  • It was Spear's second homerun of the series and fourth in five games this week.
  • The senior catcher finished the game with four RBIs.
  • Hardy's two-run homerun in the top of the eighth inning was his fifth of the season and gave the Spartans a 6-0 lead.
  • Nathan Cadena had a strong day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored.
  • Sebastian Orduno had a pair of hits in the leadoff spot for the Spartans, including a triple in the fifth inning.
  • Ethan Ross pitched a gem in six innings on the mound, striking out eight batters and only surrendering two hits to Nevada to get the win.
  • Jesse Gutierrez earned the save in three innings of relief.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will continue their long road trip with a three-game series at Fresno State on April 19-21. First pitch for game one on Friday is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
