SAN JOSE, Calif. – Korie Thomas had a multi-hit game to lead San José State softball (14-23, 3-10 MW) in a 5-4 win in this midweek non-conference game against Saint Mary’s (23-16, 3-1 WCC) on Wednesday from Cottrell Field in Moraga, Calif.
The Spartans staged a late game comeback after falling behind in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the sixth inning, Taylor Squires started things off with a single and after advancing to second on the Reina Zermeno fly out, Ashley Rico came to the plate and ripped a single to score Squires and tie the game. After Rico advanced to third, Ahmiya Noriega came to the plate and hit a sac fly to score Rico and reclaim the lead for the Spartans they would not let go of.
- K. Thomas went 2-for-2 with a single and an RBI double, her fourth of the season.
- K. Thomas’ two hits tied a single-game season high for her.
- Ah. Noriega went 1-for-2 with a triple, sac fly, a run scored and three RBIs
- Ah. Noriega’s three RBIs set a new single-game season high for the sophomore
- Ah. Noriega’s triple was her fourth of the season, making her the leader in the clubhouse in that category.
- Rico went 1-for-3 with an RBI single and one run scored.
- Squires went 1-for-3 with a single and two runs scored.
- Lacie Ham was strong in her relief appearance earning the win going 3 IP with no runs allowed and only giving up two hits.
NEXT GAME: The Spartans will have a quick one day turnaround and head out on the road for a three-game Mountain West weekend series against Colorado State starting with the first game on Friday, April 19. The game will start at 10:00 a.m. PDT from Fort Collins, Colo.
