FRESNO, Calif. – Robert Hamchuk and Matt Spear both hit homeruns as San José State (14-23, 9-10 MW) took down first-place Fresno State (25-11, 14-5 MW) 6-4 in game one of the three-game series on Friday night.
- The Spartans came out of the gate hot in the first inning after Sebastian Orduno hit a leadoff single and Dalton Bowling drew a one-out walk before Hamchuk hit an opposite-field homerun to put the Spartans up 3-0.
- The homerun was Hamchuk's sixth of the season.
- A pair of back-to-back singles from Nathan Cadena and Theo Hardy later in the inning set up Spear to also hit a three-run homerun in the top of the first to make it 6-0 Spartans.
- It was Spear's sixth homerun of the season and his fifth in the last six games.
- Keaton Chase didn't allow a single Bulldog hit until there was one out in the third inning while earning the win on the mound.
- Jesse Gutierrez pitched three strong innings of relief, striking out four Bulldogs while surrendering no runs on just two Fresno State hits.
- Nolan George earned his first save of the season in two innings pitched without giving up a hit.
