LAS VEGAS - Irena Muradyan, Rozalina Youseva and Cheuk Ying Shek all won in straight sets to lead No. 8 seed San José State (15-7, 4-5 Mountain West) in a 4-2 win against No. 1 seed New Mexico (19-3, 8-1 Mountain West) Thursday in the second round of the Mountain West Tournament from the Darling Tennis Center in Las Vegas, Nev.
The Spartans lost the doubles point due to an error and Carolina Millan clinched the win for the Spartans in singles defeating Katherine Jhang 3-6, 6-4, 6-1.
- Muradyan won her singles match 6-1, 6-2 over Sarah Alice O'Connor.
- Youseva won hers 6-1, 6-2 over Maud Vandeputte.
- Ying Shek came back from being down 5-2 in the first set to win 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 over Hsuan Huang.
- Jovana Babic and Olaya Bances Iglesias also played in singles for the Spartans.
- This is the second year in a row the Spartans have made it to the semifinals.
