SAN JOSE, Calif. – Sebastian Orduno neared the cycle and the Spartan defense put on a show as San José State (17-24, 12-11 MW) knocked off UNLV (23-19, 10-13 MW) 8-7 to even the series in game two on Saturday afternoon.
- Orduno hit an RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth inning before hitting the go-ahead two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning in the game.
- He finished 3-for-4 at the plate with three RBIs and was a double short of the cycle.
- His home run was his fifth of the season.
- The Spartans trailed 3-0 in the third inning before a single from Hunter Dorraugh plated Jackson Forbes to make it 3-1.
- The Spartans scored four runs in the sixth inning to take a 6-4 lead.
- The sixth-inning rally started with a double off the bat of Forbes that scored Matt Spear and Theo Hardy.
- Another RBI single from Dorraugh brought in Jared Lewis before a sacrifice fly from Nathan Cadena allowed Orduno to score.
- Dorraugh finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.
- Forbes also went 2-for-4 with his double and scored three times.
- The Spartans totaled five extra-base hits with three doubles, a triple and a home run.
- Micky Thompson earned the start on the mound and struck out five batters in six innings.
- Corey Sanchez earned the win out of the bullpen, throwing one and two-thirds innings of relief and limiting the Rebels to just one hit.
- Cade Van Allen shut the door with his third save of the season and struck out two batters in the ninth inning.
