Four Spartans Named To Academic All-District Team

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State's Ela Freiman, Reagan Mathieson, Ellie Shorten, and Lais e Silva were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team.

The team recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. Academic All-District® honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Freiman was selected to advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members.  First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 24, 2024.

Ela Freiman, Jr., San Jose, Calif./ Fremont HS

  • Second year being named to the CSC Academic All-District team. 
  • Recorded a school record in the 100-yard IM with a time of 56:69 to place 11th at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship. 
  • Set a school record in the 200-yard IM with a 2:00.28 at the Mountain West Championships to place fourth. 
  • Recorded the 2nd fastest 400-yard IM in school history with a time of 4:17.25 at the Mountain West Championships. 

Reagan Mathieson, Sr., Littleton, Colo./ Rock Canyon HS

  • Second year being named to the CSC Academic All-District team. 
  • Swam a season-best in the 100-yard freestyle with a 50.18 at the Mountain West Championship. 
  • Placed tenth in the 200-yard freestyle final with a 1:49.09 at the Mountain West Championship.
  • Recorded a 57.13 in the 100-yard IM at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship.

Ellie Shorten, Jr., Agoura Hills, Calif. / Agoura HS

  • Placed 14th in the finals of the 100-yard backstroke with a 55.28 at the Mountain West Championships
  • Recorded a personal best of 2:00.82 in the finals of the 200-yard backstroke to place 18th at the Mountain West Championships
  • Swam a personal best in the 50-yard freestyle at the Mizzou Invite with a 24.00

Lais e Silva, So., Vitoria, Brazil / Escola São Domingos

  • Placed 10th in the 50-yard freestyle with a 23.18 at the Mizzou Invite to record a personal best. 
  • Swam the seventh fastest SJSU 100-yard IM at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship with a 59.04.
  • Recorded a personal best in the 50-yard backstroke with a 26.54 at the CSCAA National Invitational Championship.
