SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The Spartan offense rolled on Tuesday night behind home runs from Nathan Cadena and Zach Griffin as San José State (9-19, 4-8 MW) knocked off Santa Clara (15-11, 3-3 WCC) 11-8 to take the season series.
- Cadena went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double to go along with his home run in the first inning.
- It was Cadena's third home run of the season.
- Griffin had three RBIs in the game, and his home run was his second of the season.
- Jesse Gutierrez struck out a career-high five batters in two innings of relief.
- Jared Lewis went 2-for-2 at the plate and reached base five times in his first-career start.
- Matt Spear drove in a run and scored two with two hits.
- Nik Trapani scored twice and drove in one run with two hits.
- Theo Hardy had a double and drove in a run.
- Tyler Albanese struck out three batters in two innings of relief.
- Sebastian Orduno had two hits and drove in two runs.
- Keaton Chase started the game on the mound and earned his first win of the season.
- Cade Van Allen earned the save in the win, his second of the season.
- The Spartans scored in six of the nine innings.
- It is the fifth time this season where the Spartans have scored double-digit runs.
