Spartans Explode To Game-One Win Over San Diego State

SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Sebastian Orduno and Matt Spear both went deep, while Nolan George had a career day on the mound as San José State (10-19, 5-8 MW) exploded to a 17-3 win over San Diego State (9-19, 4-9 MW) in game one of a three-game series on Friday night.

  • Spear led the way offensively for the Spartans, hitting his first home run of the season and tying his career high in RBIs with four.
  • He went 2-for-4 at the plate and also scored two runs.
  • Orduno's home run in the first inning was his third of the season.
  • The junior drove in three runs with two hits and also scored two runs.
  • George struck out a career-high seven batters in six innings of relief to earn his second win of the season.
  • Jackson Forbes matched Orduno with three RBIs of his own, going 2-for-4 at the plate with his first triple of the season.
  • Dalton Bowling also had his first triple of the season in a 2-for-4 night at the plate with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Theo Hardy scored a team-high four runs and also drew a career-high four walks.
  • Nik Trapani went 1-for-2 at the plate while driving in two runs, scoring two runs and drawing a pair of walks.
  • The Spartans as a whole drew 12 walks in the game and were also hit by four pitches in the first inning.
