Spartans Start Strong in First Day at MW Outdoor Championships

CLOVIS, Calif. – The Men’s 200m event squad had four qualifications for championship Saturday for San José State Track & Field after the first day of competition at the Mountain West Outdoor Championships in Clovis on Thursday from Veterans Memorial Stadium. 

Cameron Tarver, Malachi Snow, Jaden Smith and Jeremiah Walker all competing in the Men’s 200m Prelim qualified for championship Saturday running four of the top five times for the event. Snow and Tarver won their respective heats, while Smith and Walker qualified with two of the top nine times from the day. 

  • Snow won the second heat in the Men’s 200m Prelim with a time of 20.90 to qualify for the final on Saturday. 
  • Tarver won the third heat in the Men’s 200m Prelim with a time of 20.81 to qualify for championship Saturday.
  • Walker in the first heat of the Men’s 200m Prelim took second and qualified for the final on Saturday with a time of 21.06.
  • Smith in the Men’s 200m Prelim qualified for championship Saturday with a time of 21.05
  • Zaire Waring took second in his heat in the Men’s 400m Hurdles Prelim qualifying for Championship Saturday with a time of 52.82
  • Micah Hairston making his season debut for the Men's 400m Hurdles, qualified for championship Saturday with a career best time of 53.49.
  • Ashton Headley placed sixth in the Men’s Hammer Throw with a career best throw of 56.85 meters. 
  • Aaliyah Williams placed fourth in her heat in the Women’s 800m Prelim tying her personal best with a time of 2:09.83 and earning qualification for the final on Saturday. 
  • Christopher Malone in the Men’s 800m Prelim had a career best time of 1:51.94 and qualified for the final on Saturday. 
  • Ma’Nia Tidwell in her Women’s 400m Hurdles Prelim heat she had a personal best time of 1:02.85.
  • In the Women’s Heptathlon, Kendall McCoy finished fourth in the 100 Hurdles with a time of 14.63 seconds. 
  • McCoy currently sits with 2848 points with three more events to go in the Heptathlon.
  • Riley Costales had a career best time of 26.04 seconds in the 200m of the Women’s Heptathlon. 
  • In the 100m Hurdles of the Heptathlon, Costales had a personal best time of 14.82 seconds. 
  • Costales also had a personal best in the High Jump of the Women’s Heptathlon with a jump of 1.48m. 
  • Costales with three more events to go, currently sits with 2717 points in the Women’s Heptathlon.
