BERKELEY, Calif. - Robert Hamchuk went 3-for-5 with two RBIs to lead San José State baseball (19-29, 14-13 MW) in a 7-4 loss at Cal (29-17, 14-13 PAC-12) Friday evening in the first of a three-game series from Stu Gordon stadium this weekend.
The Spartans came out hot loading the bases with one out in the first inning, but couldn't score. Hamchuk's two RBIs were the only earned runs for the Spartans as they could never catch up to Cal again after tying the game 2-2 in the top of the second inning before Cal scored in the bottom of the second inning and would never relinquish the lead.
- Hamchuk extended his career-best hitting streak to 14 games
- Hamchuk hit a two-run single and has 34 RBIs on the season
- Hamchuk leads the Spartans with 62 hits
- Hunter Dorraugh went 1-for-4 and is still one home run away from tying his own SJSU single-season home run record

- Jared Lewis went 1-for-4 with two runs scored
- Theo Hardy scored a run but his 20 game on-base streak officially comes to an end since he got on due to fielder's choice
- Matt Spear threw out his 12th runner of the season trying to steal
- Jackson Forbes scored a run
- RHP Joey Cammarata came in relief and went 3.0 IP while striking out a pair and letting in two earned runs
- RHP Keaton Chase started the game going 3.0 IP and let in four earned runs
- The Spartans left eight on base while Cal left seven on base
