Spartans Beat Cal on the Road, 8-2

BERKELEY, Calif. - Sebastian Orduno and Dalton Bowling each hit home runs to lead San José State baseball (20-30, 14-13 MW) in an 8-2 win at Cal (30-18, 14-13 PAC-12) Sunday afternoon in the final game from Stu Gordon stadium this weekend.

  • This is the first time the Spartans have beat Cal since 2021 and their first time beating Cal in Berkeley since 2002
  • The Spartans now have 20 wins in a season for the third season in a row for the first time since the 2012 season
  • Orduno hit his sixth home run of the season to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead in the second inning
  • Orduno was also hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to bring in a run for his 29th RBI of the season
  • Orduno finished the game going 2-for-4 and also hit his seventh double of the season
  • Orduno also threw out a runner at home for his third outfield assist of the season
  • Bowling hit a three-run home run for his 12th of the season in the third inning and scored a pair of runs
  • Bowling has 42 RBIs this season to lead the Spartans and his SJSU career RBI record is now at 154
  • Bowling also has 34 career home runs which is second in SJSU history
  • Hunter Dorraugh went 3-for-4 with an RBI single in the eighth inning
  • Dorraugh has multi-hits in 14 of his last 17 games
  • LHP Ethan Ross threw 5.0 IP while letting in only one run and striking out five on the way to his sixth win of the season
  • LHP Corey Sanchez came in to relieve Ross and went 4.0 IP while allowing one run with two hits on the way to his first save of the season
  • Robert Hamchuk nailed a runner at home for his third outfield assist of the season
  • Hamchuk hit his fifth triple of the season in the eighth inning to extend his hitting streak to a career-best 16 games
  • Jackson Forbes went 1-for-4 and stole his second base this season and scored a run
  • Theo Hardy went 1-for-3 with two runs scored 
  • Nathan Cadena walked with the bases loaded for his 31st RBI of the season
  • Matt Spear also walked with the bases loaded to bring in his 27th RBI of the season
  • The Spartans put three across in the fifth inning with two outs thanks to one bases loaded hit by pitch and two bases loaded walks
  • SJSU snapped Cal's six-game home winning streak
