Spartans Fall in 11 Innings at Cal, 4-3

BERKELEY, Calif. - Hunter Dorraugh had two RBIs and Jackson Forbes scored a pair of runs to lead San José State baseball (19-30, 14-13 MW) in a 4-3 11 innings loss at Cal (30-17, 14-13 PAC-12) Saturday afternoon in the second of a three-game series from Stu Gordon stadium this weekend.

In the fifth inning, the Spartans took their first lead of the weekend thanks to a Theo Hardy RBI double and a Dorraugh sacrifice fly, but in the bottom of the fifth inning Cal's Rodney Green, Jr. hit a solo home run to tie the game at three. It stayed tied until the bottom of the 11th inning when an errant Spartan throw let a Cal run to score to end the game with two outs.

  • Dorraugh went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly
  • Dorraugh has 37 RBIs on the season
  • Hardy has 37 RBIs and 12 doubles on the season
  • Forbes went 2-for-4 and scored two runs, plus had a run saving diving catch in right field
  • For the second time this series and 13th this season, Matt Spear threw out a runner trying to steal second in the first inning
  • Robert Hamchuk extended his career-best hitting streak to 15 games
  • LHP Micky Thompson started the game and went 3.0 IP while allowing only one run
  • Thompson and Hardy picked off a runner at second to end the first inning

  • Jared Lewis went 2-for-5 on the day and is 9-for-20 in his last five games
