SAN JOSE, Calif. – Sebastian Orduno hit a home run and a double to lead San José State baseball (22-31, 16-14 MW) in a 10-9 11 innings loss against New Mexico (28-24, 17-13 MW) from Excite Ballpark Saturday afternoon in the regular season finale. With Air Force beating Fresno State, the Spartans clinched a berth and the No. 3 seed in the Mountain West Championship tournament next week in San Diego, Calif.
The Spartans were down 9-6 in the bottom of the ninth inning with two outs, but tied the game thanks to a Nathan Cedena two-run double and a Matt Spear RBI single, but New Mexico put one across in the top of the 11th inning to take the lead they wouldn't relinquish.
- Theo Hardy hit a sacrifice fly for his 38th RBI of the season in the third inning
- Hardy scored a pair of runs
- Hunter Dorraugh hit an RBI single in the third inning
- Robert Hamchuk hit a two-run double and extended his hit streak to a career-high 19 games
- Hamchuk went 2-for-4 on the day and now has 36 RBIs on the season
- Orduno hit a solo home run in the seventh inning for his seventh home run of the season
- Against UNM this weekend, Orduno hit .538 with seven hits, two doubles, a home run, three RBIs, three runs scored and a .923 slugging pct.
- Cadena went 2-for-2 and scored two runs
- Matt Spear had his 30th RBI of the season and is the seventh Spartan with 30 or more RBIs this season
- LHP Ethan Ross started and went 6.0 innings before letting in a run and struck out five
- SJSU finished 3-3 against UNM this season
- This is the Spartans fourth MW series they have won
