COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San José State's Micky Thompson was named Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.
Thompson, a redshirt senior from Portland, Ore., pitched his first ever complete game on Friday night to help propel the Spartans to the Mountain West Championship tournament with a 5-1 win over New Mexico.
- This is the first Mountain West Pitcher of the Week award for Thompson
- It's the second MW weekly honor for the Spartans this season (Hunter Dorraugh, 4/22/24)
- Thompson had seven strikeouts, while letting in only one run on five hits and two walks against New Mexico
- The 131 pitches Thompson threw on Friday were a career-high and the most under a Brad Sanfilippo coached team at SJSU
- Thompson earned his fourth win of the season on Friday night
- Over his last 13.0 IP, Thompson has only allowed two earned runs
- Thompson goes into the MW Championship with 52 strikeouts over 76.0 IP this season
