Spartans Fall 8-5 at Air Force Friday Afternoon

USAFA, Colo. - Hunter Dorraugh had a solo home run and also hit a two RBI double to lead San José State baseball (18-26, 13-12 MW) in an 8-5 loss at Air Force (20-24, 12-10 MW) Friday afternoon in the first of three games from Erdle Field this weekend.

The Falcons scored first with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, but the Spartans came right back thanks to Dalton Bowling who hit an RBI triple followed by Theo Hardy who had a sacrifice bunt to knock in Bowling and tie the game at two in the second inning.

The Falcons scored a pair of runs and led 4-2 in the fifth inning until Dorraugh hit a solo shot for his 12th home run of the season to make it 4-3 Falcons. In the top of the seventh inning and with the Spartans down 5-3, Dorraugh came through again this time with a two RBI double to tie the game 5-5. But in the bottom of the seventh inning, Air Force's Charlie Jones hit his second home run of the game to give the Falcons a 7-5 lead they wouldn't relinquish.

  • Dorraugh has 32 RBIs this season and is the fourth Spartan to have 30 or more RBIs
  • Dorraugh also has six doubles and this was his 18th multi-hit of the season and his career-best seventh multi-hit game in a row
  • Dorraugh has an SJSU record 37 home runs as a Spartan and 41 career home runs overall
  • Bowling has three triples on the season and leads the Spartans with 33 RBIs
  • Bowling went 3-for-4 and has five three hit games this season
  • Hardy now has 29 RBIs on the season
  • Matt Spear went 1-for-3 and scored a run, plus threw out his 11th runner this season trying to steal second
  • Robert Hamchuk has a season-best 10-game hitting streak with a single
  • Nik Trapani hit his third double of the season
  • RHP Nolan George started his fourth game of the season and went 5.1 IP with two strikeouts
