Spartans Ranked 25th in ITA Mid-Major Rankings

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association released its 2024 women's tennis mid-major and regional rankings. San José State finished number 25 amongst mid-majors and five in the Northwest Region.

  • Both the No. 25 mid-major and No. 5 Northwest Regional rankings are the highest finishes in program history. 
  • The Spartans ended their season in the Mountain West Tournament semifinals after defeating No. 1 seed New Mexico (ranked fifth in the Mountain Region) 4-2 in the quarterfinals.
  • The Spartans finished with an overall record of 15-8 and 4-5 in the Mountain West. 
  • 15 wins tied for the second most wins in program history and tied the 2020-21 season for the most under coach Chad Skorupka’s tenure.
  • Other notable wins this season included a 4-3 win over Cal Poly, who finished ranked 21st in the mid-major rankings, and a 4-1 road win over Cal State Northridge, who finished 24th in the mid-major rankings.
  • Carolina Millan earned her fourth consecutive All-Mountain West Singles Team honors. She went 11-9 overall in singles matches and had a record of 7-7 in dual matches in 2023-24. Millan had a six-match win streak in singles matches from (9/29/23 - 2/25/24).  
  • Irena Muradyan earned her second All-Mountain West singles honor and first All-Mountain West Doubles honor. She went 13-10 overall in singles matches and 10-7 in dual matches in 2023-24. 
  • Muradyan’s 13 single wins were tied for most on team in 2023-24. She also won the highest amount of doubles matches this season with 16.
  • Cheuk Ying Shek was named Mountain West Women's Tennis Freshman of the Year and named All-Mountain West Doubles with Muradyan.
  • The Spartans will return four of their eight roster players for the 2024-25 season.
