Spartans Set to Compete at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene

SAN JOSE, Calif. – The San José State track & field team is set to have eight athletes compete at the NCAA Track and Field Championships this Wednesday through Saturday, June 5-8. The competition will kick off with men’s events on Wednesday starting at 2:00 p.m. PDT from Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. The events can be seen on ESPN2 on days one, two and three while day four can be seen on ESPN. 

The Spartans will head to the NCAA Track and Field nationals for the fourth consecutive time across indoor and outdoor seasons with eight athletes competing across six events at Hayward Field. This will be the most athletes the Spartans have sent to the NCAA Track and Field nationals in program history. San Jose State Track and Field will compete in the Women’s Triple Jump and Long Jump, Men’s 100m, Men’s 400m, Men’s 110m Hurdles and Men’s 4x100 Relay at these outdoor championships.

  • Competition will start with the semi-final rounds on Wednesday for the men and Thursday for the women. 
  • The semi-finals will consist of the top 24 athletes from the west and east preliminary rounds across both individual and relay events with the top nine times advancing on to the final rounds on Friday and Saturday. 
  • The Spartans will send eight athletes to Eugene for the national championships competing in the Women’s Triple Jump and Long Jump, Men’s 100m, 400m, 110m Hurdles and 4x100 Relay. 
  • Emilia Sjostrand will compete in the Women's Long Jump and Triple Jump.
  • Sjostrand is currently ranked number four in the nation for Women’s Triple Jump and ranked 14th in the Women’s Long Jump 
  • Sjostrand’s jump of 13.88m (45-6½) at the West Prelims tied the current number three mark in the nation for Women’s Triple Jump this season.
  • Sjostrand will make a trip to NCAA nationals for the fourth consecutive time in either Women’s Long Jump or Triple Jump across both indoor and outdoor seasons.
  • Malachi Snow will compete individually in the Men’s 100m and 110m Hurdles.
  • Snow is currently ranked number seven in the nation for the Men’s 110mH with a time of 13.33 and ranked 10th in the 100m with a time of 10.00. 
  • Demaris Waters will compete in the Men’s 110m Hurdles. 
  • Waters goes in to Eugene ranked 11th in the nation for the Men’s 110mH with a time of 13.40. 
  • Jaden Smith will compete individually in the Men’s 400m.
  • Smith currently ranks 18th nationally in the Men’s 400m with a time of 45.40.  
  • Snow, Smith, Cameron Tarver, Isaac Davis, Jeremiah Walker and Jared Jones will compete in the Men’s 4x100 Relay. 
  • The Men’s 4x100 Relay squad is currently ranked 17th nationally going in to this week with a time of 39.27.
  • The Spartan men are currently ranked 42nd nationally going in to Eugene jumping up eight spots after the West Prelims. 
  • The Spartan women are ranked 55th nationally going in to this week, moving up five spots after the West Prelims.
  • With eight athletes punching a ticket to Eugene this is the largest group of national qualifiers in program history. 
  • Speed City has now sent athletes to the NCAA nationals across the last four indoor and outdoor seasons dating back to early 2023.
  • The Spartans over the course of four days of competition at the NCAA West Prelims two weeks ago, set four personal bests, Sjostrand in the Women’s Long Jump (6.54m, 21-5½), Snow in the Men’s 100m (10.13) and Waters set two PB’s in the Men’s 110mH (13.47 in first round and 13.44 in quarterfinals)
  • The Spartans also set four season bests at the West Prelims, Sjostrand in the Women’s Triple Jump (13.88m, 45-6½), Snow in the Men’s 100m (10.00), the Men’s 4x100 Relay squad (39.27) and the Men’s 4x400 Relay squad (3:06.42). 
  • The program had two SJSU all-time all-condition performance marks broken in Arkansas at the West Prelims in the Men’s 100m (10.00 seconds) by Snow and the Women’s Long Jump (6.54m - 21-5½) by Sjostrand. 
  • Also during the West Prelims, the SJSU all-time Men’s 100m wind legal record was broken by Snow’s personal best time of 10.13 seconds.
