EUGENE, Ore. – Malachi Snow qualified for the final in the Men’s 110m Hurdles while the men’s 4x100 squad also earned a spot in the finals on Friday for San José State Track & Field after the men kicked off competition on day one at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Oregon on Wednesday from Hayward Field.
In the first track event of the day, the Men’s 4x100 Relay squad of Snow, Jaden Smith, Cameron Tarver, Isaac Davis, Jeremiah Walker and Jared Jones qualified for the final on Saturday after running a season best 38.69 seconds which also broke the SJSU all-time record in the Men’s 4x100 Relay previously held by the original Speed City group from 1969. Just about an hour after helping qualify for the 4x100 final, Snow then ran in the Men’s 110m Hurdles where he also qualified for the final on Friday with a time of 13.44. Demaris Waters running right alongside Snow throughout the race just missed the cut for Friday’s final but did cement his status as a NCAA Second Team All-American for a great individual season. Smith running in the Men’s 400m also solidified his own individual NCAA Second Team All-American status with a time of 45.95 seconds.
- Snow, Tarver, Smith, Davis, Walker and Jones in the Men’s 4x100 Relay semifinal finished with a season best time of 38.69 to qualify for the final on Friday.
- The men’s 4x100 squad’s season best time also set a new SJSU all-time record in the event breaking the previous top time held by the original Speed City squad.
- Snow in the Men’s 110m Hurdles finished second in his heat to qualify for the final on Friday with a time of 13.44.
- Snow also running in the semifinal for the Men’s 100m dash finished with a time of 10.60 seconds.
- Waters in the Men’s 110m Hurdles semifinal finished with a time of 13.49 just barely missing the cut for Friday’s final ending his individual season.
- Waters performance in the Men’s 110mH did cement his status as an NCAA Second Team All-American this season.
- Smith running in the men’s 400m finished with a time of 45.95 solidifying his status as an NCAA Second Team All-American this season.
