SJSU's Jesus Sanchez Promoted to Men's Soccer Associate Head Coach

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State men's soccer Assistant Coach Jesus "Chuy" Sanchez has been promoted to Associate Head Coach.

"Chuy is one of the top young coaches in the US," said Head Coach Simon Tobin. "I have been very lucky with some great assistants in my career and Chuy is right there with the best. He played for me, and now I am really proud to see him alongside me as an associate head coach." 

Sanchez joined the Spartans men’s soccer staff as an assistant coach in 2018 and is now entering his seventh season in San José. Sanchez has helped lead the Spartans to an appearance in the WAC Tournament in every season since he joined the coaching staff.

Sanchez played collegiately for now San José State head coach Simon Tobin at CSU Bakersfield from 2009 to 2012, becoming one of the most prolific players in program history in his time with the Roadrunners. He finished his four seasons there with 16 goals and 27 assists while compiling a record of 40-22-15. 

After graduating from CSU Bakersfield, Sanchez enjoyed a successful playing career in the United Soccer League with the Oklahoma City Energy. 

The Mazatlan, Mexico native began his coaching career at Roadrunner United FC and most recently coached with the PACNW Soccer Club in Washington before making the move to San José.
