SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State men’s golf alum Kevin Velo has qualified for the PGA Tour for the first time in his career.

Velo currently sits in ninth place on the Korn Ferry Tour Points List, with five events remaining. He cannot fall outside the top 30, which will secure his 2025 PGA Tour membership at season's end.

“I could not be more proud. He deserves this opportunity. He’s earned it, and I believe he will do great things with it,” said SJSU’s men’s head golf coach, John Kennaday. "He had unwavering resolve and worked to be the best he could be. There was a very telling moment when he showed up in the middle of a hail storm to get his work done. That is the difference right there in a nutshell about what it takes."

Velo was a Spartan men’s golf team member from 2015-19 and became one of the program's most decorated players. Velo, a four-time Ken Venturi Most Valuable Player for San José State award-winning graduate, had nine top-10 tournament finishes as a Spartan.

"It's wild," Velo said to the PGA Tour. "Now that it's locked up, it's a crazy feeling. It's a dream I've been working for, for a while, and to go through the stages of where I've been, it's been an awesome journey."

Velo joins fellow Spartan alum Mark Hubbard on the tour. Hubbard has made 20 of 22 cuts this season, including finishing in the top five of an event five times, and currently sits in 65th place in the FedEx Cup standings and has made over 10 million dollars in career earnings.
