SAN JOSE, Calif. - Shayla Sugai made five saves and Kennedy Mayo fired off three shots to lead the San José State women's soccer team (0-1, 0-0 MW) in a 4-0 loss against No. 22 Santa Clara (1-0, 0-0 WCC) in the first game of the season on Thursday night at Spartan Soccer Complex presented by Habana Cuba.
- Sugai recorded five saves, with one save coming on a penalty from the spot where she denied the Broncos from adding on. Her five saves tonight tied her season high from last year.
- Mayo led the Spartans with three shots, one of which was on goal.
- Bella Flocchini recorded two shots, with one shot on goal.
- Taylor Phillips recorded a shot on goal.
- Sophia Martel, Payton Hoover, Lillyanna Rodriguez and Atianna Fuamatu-Ma’afala made their NCAA debuts.
- Iliana Jasso, Tasia Kravitz, Kyah Coady and Sugai played the full 90 minutes in this match.
