SAN JOSE, Calif. - Gilberto Rivera scored his first goal of his career from well beyond the box to lead the San José State (1-2-2, 0-0-0 WAC) men's soccer team in a 1-1 draw against UC San Diego (0-4-2, 0-0-0 BIG WEST) on Thursday night at Spartan Soccer Complex.
- In the 52nd minute of play, Rivera shot a rocket from way beyond the box, hitting the right side of the crossbar and bouncing in the net. The goal was Rivera’s first of his career.
- Angel Iniguez and Cameron Cook each earned assists on the goal.
- For Iniguez, the assist was his second of the season and 13th of his career.
- For Cook, the assist was his first of his career.
- In the match, Iniguez led the team with four total shots, two of which were on goal.
- Rivera, Cook, Diogo Baptista and Neo Ruiz all also had one shot on goal in the game.
- Jesus Carrillo-Lorenzo made his season debut.
- Edgar Guerra notched two saves for the Spartans.
- Six Spartans, Rivera, Iniguez, Baptista, Ruben Flores-Thomas, Kaylob Walker and Niklas Dossmann, played all 90 minutes in the game.
