SAN JOSE, Calif. - Brendon Gyapjas saved 12 shots and only allowed two goals to lead the No. 9 San José State men’s water polo team (3-1, 0-0 WCC) in a 14-3 victory over George Washington (3-4, 0-0 MAWPC) in the Spartans’ home opener.
- Gyapjas notched 12 saves in the game and allowed only two goals in 24 minutes of action.
- Mateja Bosić led the Spartans with five points in the matchup. He scored two goals and had three assists.
- Jamie Steingraf, Giancarlo Marquez and Eric Ellison each recorded two goals in the match.
- Mitchell Keightley, Hamish Bonnar, Louis Fehrensen, Bence Szabo, Luke Burns and Erik Duesund all scored one goal.
- Austin Hexter tallied two assists in the match while Connor MacMillan, Steingraf, Bonnar, Szabo, Zac Newman and Duesund all tallied one assist.
- Alexey Poletaev, who came in towards the end of the third quarter and would play the rest of the match in goal for the Spartans, recorded five saves and allowed one goal in the game.
- The last time the Spartans held a team to three goals or less was last season when SJSU defeated UC Merced 20-3 on Sept.10, 2023.
