DALLAS - San José State wide receiver Nick Nash was named to the 2024 Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year Watch List, announced by the organization on Thursday.

Nash currently leads the nation in five wide receiver categories and is fourth all-time in SJSU with 17 receiving touchdowns.

The award, presented by Albertsons and Tom Thumb, is the first college football honor to focus primarily on a player’s leadership, both on and off the field. Leadership is a term synonymous with Jason Witten, who, in addition to becoming one of the best tight ends in the history of the sport, served as one of football’s most prominent role models during his 16-year pro career. In addition to winning the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 2012, Witten also received the Bart Starr Award, Pro Football Weekly’s Humanitarian of the Year Award, Home Depot NFL Neighborhood MVP and the Bob Lilly Award, among many others. All of those honors have recognized his work in the community, achievements on the field and dedication to his teammates and family.

SEASON TICKETS | 2024 SCHEDULE

Nick Nash, WR, Redshirt Senior, Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge HS

Nash leads the country in:

  • Touchdown receptions: eight (next closest 6)
  • Receptions: 50 (next closest 41)
  • Receptions per game: 12.5 (next closest 10.3)
  • Receiving yards: 637 (next closest 628)
  • Receiving yards per game: 159.3 (next closest 157)

Also, Nash is now fourth all-time in SJSU history with 17 career receiving touchdowns. What makes this even more remarkable is that Nash was a quarterback at SJSU until 2022, when he became a true full-time wide receiver in the 2022 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl and has only been a true full-time wide receiver for 18 games.

Nash has a reception in all 18 of those games and has 17 & 16 receptions in his last two games. The 17 receptions against Kennesaw State were the most since Nevada's Romeo Doubs had 19 receptions against Fresno State (10/23/21). He even returned to his roots this season by throwing a touchdown pass in the Spartans' first game this year.

Nash had 16 catches for 152 yards and two touchdowns in the Spartans 54-52 double-overtime loss at Washington State last Friday night.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will return home for a bye week to prepare for their matchup with Nevada on Saturday, Oct. 5, at CEFCU Stadium as a part of Parent and Family Weekend at SJSU presented by Donor Network West. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. (PT), and it can be watched on TruTV/Max and heard on 860 AM. Buy tickets for the game here.
