BERKELEY, Calif. – Emma Fantusis made her San José State debut with a singles win to lead the Spartans on the first day of the Cal Fall Invitational at the University of California.
- Fantusis overcame Zara Fung from the University of The Pacific, 6-1, 6-4 in her singles match
- Olaya Bances Iglesias defeated her opponent, Elizaveta Mladentseva from the University of The Pacific, 6-1, 6-4, 6-3
- In their first contest, Nahjime Dho and doubles partner Soledad Fayos Capilla came up short, losing 8-5 against Palina Saulevich and Catherine Walker from Sacramento State
- Fantusis and Cristina Mateos Losada lost their doubles match to Weronika Ejsmont and Madelyn Ferreros from Sacramento State with a score of 8-5, in their first appearance
- Later in the day, Dho was bested in her singles match, 6-2, 6-0, 6-4
- Fayos Capilla fell short in her singles match, 7-5, 6-2, 6-4
- Mateos Losada lost in her singles match, 6-7, 6-2, 6-4
UP NEXT: The Spartans will continue tomorrow on day two of the Cal Fall Invitational, with Bances Iglesias and Fantusis continuing in their respective singles matches, along with a singles consolation match and two doubles consolation matches.
