CORALVILLE, Iowa—Nayeli Ti’a and Blaire Fleming each recorded 18 kills to lead the San José State volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-16, 25-21, 24-26, 25-19) win at Iowa Friday afternoon in the first match of the Hawkeye Invitational #1 at Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa.
- Ti’a had her first double-double of the season and eighth of her career with her 18 kills and 11 digs.
- Fleming recorded her first career double-double with her 18 kills and career-high 13 digs.
- This is the program’s first win over a current Big Ten team since 2004 when SJSU defeated Oregon, 3-1, in Sacramento.
- This win is the first against a school in the Big Ten at the time of the match since 1999 when the Spartans won 3-0 at Northwestern.
- Randilyn Reeves led the team with a season-best 14 digs.
- Mari Lawton had a team-best four block assists, while Bryant and Fleming each had three blocks.
- Brooke Slusser recorded 38 assists to go with seven digs, four kills and two aces.
- Emma Testi had three aces and hit .385 for the match.
- The Spartans won the first set 25-16 and led from the first serve.
- SJSU trailed 16-14 in the fourth set before taking an 18-17 lead on a Ti’a kill and scored seven of the final nine points to win the match on Ti'a’s 18th kill.
