Angel Iniguez Named WAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State's Angel Iniguez was voted the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week the conference announced on Tuesday. This is Iniguez’s second time being named WAC Offensive Player of the Week in his career. 

Iniguez contributed to both Spartans goals in a 2-2 draw against UC Davis last Friday. In the 56th minute of play, Iniguez perfectly curled a free kick past the Aggie goalkeeper and into the bottom right corner of the goal for the first SJSU goal of the match. 

Just a dozen minutes later in the game, the Spartans would score off another set piece when Iniguez launched a ball off a free kick from midfield straight onto Christian Powell's head and into the back of the net.

Iniguez has one goal and three assists so far on the season. Coming into the year, Iniguez was voted the 2024 WAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and named to the United Soccer Coaches' NCAA Division I Men’s Players to Watch List.

The Spartans are 1-4-4 on the season and will open conference play at Air Force on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m.

  • Tallied one goal and three assists so far in 2024
  • Named 2024 WAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year
  • Led the Spartans with 20 points, seven goals and six assists in 2023
  • Named to the All-WAC First Team in 2023
  • Recorded ten goals and 14 assists in his two and a half years at SJSU
  • Produced a career-high four points with one goal and two assists in a 4-1 win over Sacramento State (9/22/23)
  • Registered at least one point in the first three games of 2023 with an assist against CSU Bakersfield(8/24/23), a goal and an assist against UC San Diego (8/26/23) and a goal against San Francisco (8/31/23)
  • Named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week Twice (Week of 8/29/23 and 10/1/24)
