Niklas Dossmann Named WAC Defensive Player of the Week

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State's Niklas Dossmann was named the University Credit Union Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week the conference announced on Monday. This is Dossmann’s first time being named WAC Defensive Player of the Week in his career. 

Dossmann led the Spartans defense in their back-to-back shutouts against Utah Tech and UNLV this week. Dossmann played all 90 minutes in both matches.

Against Utah Tech, Dossmann and the Spartans held the Trail Blazers to only eight shots and two shots on goal. Against UNLV, the Spartans only allowed the Rebels to take three total shots, none of which were on goal. Two of the Rebels’ three shots were in the final minutes of the game when the Spartans were down to 10 men. SJSU now has four shutouts on the season and three shutouts in their last four games.

The Spartans are 3-4-6 on the season and 2-0-2 in conference play. SJSU currently stands in third place in the conference with eight total points. The Spartans will continue conference play at Cal Baptist on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m.
