Spartans Dominate in Singles on Day One of SJSU Hidden Duals

SAN JOSE, Calif. Duru Durgun, Carla Urchoeguia, Soledad Fayos Capilla and Emma Fantousis all won in their singles and doubles matches as the San José State women’s tennis team kicks off the first day of the 2024 SJSU Hidden Duals from the Spartan Tennis Complex. 

  • On the tournament's first day, the Spartans faced Santa Clara University in singles and UC Davis in doubles. 
  • Durgun defeated Velizara Fileva, 7-5, 6-2
  • Nahjime Dho triumphed over Jillian Roa, 6-3, 6-3
  • Fantousis emerged victorious against Julliette Krumholz, 6-2, 6-0
  • Fayos Capilla dominated Jaime Pope, 6-0, 6-0
  • Urchoeguia secured victory against Tian Yu Dong, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5
  • Durgun and doubles partner Fantousis won against Maddie Page and Mika Ikemori, 6-1
  • Fayos Capilla and Urchoeguia won in a close contest against  Kaia Wolfe and  Polina Marakhtanova, 7-5
  • Olaya Bances Iglesias was bested by Anna Rahman, 7-5, 7-5
  • Cheuk Ying Shek and doubles partner Dho came up short against Daisy Maunupau and Solia Valentine, 1-6

UP NEXT: The Spartans will continue tomorrow as they face Santa Clara University in doubles and the University of the Pacific in singles.
