KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii—Lucia Lopez Ortega sits atop the leaderboard at 6-under 67, and the San José State women’s golf team is in third place after the first round of the Nanea Invitational at the par-73 Nanea Golf Club Monday afternoon.
- Lopez Ortega nearly had a clean card with seven birdies, 10 pars and a bogey. She made three consecutive birdies on holes 13, 14 and 15.
- She shot a 67 for the fourth time in her collegiate career.
- Lopez Ortega is tied for first with Isla McDonald-O’Brien from Arizona State and Megha Ganne of Stanford.
- Two Spartans finished the day in the top-10 as Nicola Kaminski shot a 3-under 70 to tie for sixth place.
- She had a clean card on the round, making birdies on #6, #8 and #14.
- Kaminski leads the field in pars made with 15.
- Moa Andersson is tied for 26th at 1-over 74, making three birdies on the day and finishing by making five consecutive pars.
- Tessa Kremser shot a 2-over 75 and is tied for 34th, while Rebecca Gyllner shot a 4-over 77 and is tied for 45th.
- The Spartans are third in the team standings at 6-under 286, and are one of four teams to shoot under par for the round.
- SJSU made 20 birdies and 54 pars on the day and are tied for first in par-3 scoring at even par.
