Angel Iniguez Named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Team of the Week

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State's Angel Iniguez was named to Top Drawer Soccer’s Men’s Team of the Week, the site announced on Monday. Iniguez was also named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row on Tuesday.

Iniguez led the Spartans in road conference wins against Air Force and Utah Valley. Against Air Force, Iniguez scored all three goals for the Spartans, becoming the first player to score a hat trick for SJSU since Willy Miranda recorded a hat trick on March 26, 2021 against Cal Baptist. Iniguez is also the only player in the conference to register a hat trick and six points in a game so far this season. 

Against Utah Valley, Iniguez led SJSU in a comeback win from two goals down. Iniguez scored twice in the match and assisted on Diogo Baptista’s go-ahead goal. In the Spartans’ last three games, Iniguez has recorded six goals and two assists as the Spartans have gone 2-0-1 in that span. 

Iniguez has recorded six goals so far this season, putting him tied for second in the WAC. Also, his four assists so far this season are tied for first in the conference. Coming into the year, Iniguez was voted the 2024 WAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and named to the United Soccer Coaches' NCAA Division I Men’s Players to Watch List.

The Spartans are 3-4-4 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. SJSU will continue conference play at home against Utah Tech on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Spartan Soccer Complex.

  • Registered at least one point in the first three games of 2023 with an assist against CSU Bakersfield(8/24/23), a goal and an assist against UC San Diego (8/26/23) and a goal against San Francisco (8/31/23)
  • Named the WAC Offensive Player of the Week three times (Week of 8/29/23, 10/1/24 and 10/8/24)
