SAN JOSE, Calif. - Angel Fernandez, Cameron Cook and Anthony Guzman all scored a goal to lead the San José State (4-7-6, 3-3-2 WAC) men's soccer team in a 3-0 victory against Grand Canyon (5-9-3, 2-5-1 WAC) at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
- Cook opened scoring for the Spartans with a kick from well outside of the box that took a favorable bounce past the goalkeeper.
- The Spartans doubled their lead just minutes later in the first half when Fernandez finished a shot inside the penalty box off a beautiful pass from Ruben Flores-Thomas into the bottom left corner of the net.
- Anthony Guzman secured the victory with his goal in the 86th minute.
- For Cook, his goal was his second of the season. He also earned his second assist of the season on Guzman’s goal.
- Fernandez scored his first goal of the season and second of his career. He also assisted on Cook’s opening goal, marking his third assist of the season.
- Guzman scored his first goal of the season and sixth of his career.
- Angel Iniguez tallied a career high three assists in the match, putting him up to seven on the season.
- Iniguez is now tied for first in the WAC in assists.
- Flores-Thomas recorded his second assist of the season in the game.
- In net, Ronin Axelson recorded his first career shutout in his second start of the season.
- The Spartans are now up to five shutouts on the season.
- SJSU outshot Grand Canyon 14-3 in the match.
- With the win, the Spartans are now tied for fourth in the conference standings with 11 points.
- The Spartans’ can clinch a postseason berth with a win or tie on Sunday.
