SAN JOSE, Calif. - Finau Tonga scored 12 points to lead the San José State women’s basketball team in their 82-53 home-opener loss against California on Saturday afternoon at the Provident Credit Union Event Center.
- Finau Tonga finished with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field with seven rebounds and one assist.
- Tonga’s seven rebounds tops her single-game season high from last year, which was six.
- Tonga’s 23 minutes played in this game also sets a new single-game high for the redshirt junior.
- Djessira Diawara would finish with 8 points, seven rebounds, and one block. She was 4-for-9 shooting from the field.
- Sydni Summers had eight points with three rebounds and three assists.
- Rylei Waugh would finish with seven points, four rebounds, one assist, and one steal. Waugh was 1-for-3 from behind the arc in this game.
- Sofia Kelemeni scored five points with two rebounds, two assists, and one block. Kelemeni now has three blocks through the first two games.
- The Spartans outscored Cal in the first half in points off the bench 6-3 and in second-chance points 10-4.
- The Spartans would score 30 points in the paint in this game.
