SAN JOSE, Calif.— San José State men's basketball has signed Melvin Bell Jr., a 6-6 shooting guard from La Lumiere High School in La Porte, Ind., as announced by head coach Tim Miles on Thursday. Bell will join the team in the fall of 2025.

  • Four-star rated on ESPN with a player rating of 80
  • Three-star recruit with an 88 player rating on 247Sports
  • Ranked as the third best player in Illinois and top-35 shooting guard in this recruiting class according to ESPN
  • Key contributor at La Lumiere School which is ranked No. 8 in the MaxPreps National Top 10 Basketball Rankings
  • Competed with ​​Meanstreets Nike EYBL AAU program in Chicago under coach Tai Streets
  • Received offers from Brown, Stanford, DePaul, Murray St., Ball State, Illinois, Missouri, Toledo, and Eastern Michigan
  • Plans to study Pre-Med and wants to be an orthopedic surgeon
