SAN JOSE, Calif. - Mitchell Keightley recorded five points to lead the No. 13 San José State men’s water polo team (15-6, 4-2 WCC) in a 19-9 victory over Air Force (13-19, 1-5 WCC) at the Spartan Recreation and Aquatic Center. With the win, the Spartans clinched the third seed in the WCC Tournament.
- Keightley’s five points consisted of three goals and two assists.
- Mattin Sarhaddi scored three goals in the game.
- Maro Tiozzo tallied three assists in the match.
- Connor MacMillan and Mateja Bosić each scored a goal and recorded two assists.
- Louis Fehrensen, Eric Ellison, Bence Szabo and Austin Hexter all notched two points in the game.
- Mael Suchet, Jamie Steingraf, Hamish Bonnar, Nathan Correia, Samu Biros, Zach Ramans, Erik Duesund and Terence O’Donnell all earned a point in the game.
- In net, Brendon Gyapjas recorded 10 saves and only allowed two goals in 16 minutes.
- Alexey Poletaev tallied four saves, three steals and an assist in net in the second half.
- The Spartans’ 19 goals were the most scored in a game all season.
- The Spartans also celebrated three seniors, Steingraf, Szabo and MacMillan, on Senior Day.
UP NEXT: The reigning WCC champions will rematch Air Force in the first round of the WCC Tournament on Friday, November 22, at noon. The tournament is hosted by the University of Pacific.
