SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State men’s water polo Mattin Sarhaddi was named WCC Newcomer of the Week, announced by the conference on Tuesday.
Sarhaddi played a vital role in the Spartans' two wins over the weekend. In SJSU's 13-12 win over No.16 Cal Baptist, Sarhaddi scored the game tying goal, tying the game at 10 in the fourth period after the Spartans trailed 9-6 just minutes earlier. Sarhaddi followed that up with three goals scored in a 19-9 win over Air Force which were tied for the most on the team in the game. In total, Sarhaddi had four goals and drew two exclusions over the weekend.
The No. 13 Spartans finished the regular season with a record of 15-6 and conference record of 4-2. SJSU earned the third seed in the WCC Tournament and will face the sixth seed Air Force in the first round on Friday, November 22 at noon in Stockton, Calif.
