Spartans Win Against Umass Lowell in Second Game of Puerto Rico Clásico

BAYAMÓN, Puerto Rico - Sofia Kelemeni scored a career-high 20 points, and Amira Brown scored a season-high 14 points to lead San José State women’s basketball (5-3, 0-0 MW) in a close 68-67 win over UMass Lowell (0-8, 0-0 CAA) in their second and final game of the Puerto Rico Clásico on Saturday afternoon from Rubén Rodriguez Coliseum.

  • The Spartans were down by 13 points going into halftime, but they stayed patient and chipped away at the lead to come all the way back and win this game. 
  • Kelemeni finished with 20 points to go with four rebounds and three assists, going 6-for-11 from the field and 4-for-8 from behind the arc.
  • Kelemeni’s 20 points set a new career high for the junior, and her four three-point field goals tied her career high.  
  • Brown would finish with 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists while going 5-for-11 from the field and 2-for-4 behind the arc.
  • Brown’s second three-point field goal was a big one to give the Spartans a lead they would not relinquish.   
  • Brown set a new single-game season high in points for the second consecutive game. 
  • Jasmine Singleton scored 11 points with three rebounds and three assists on 3-of-5 shooting from the field with 5-for-11 from the free throw line.
  • Singleton set a new single-game season high in free throws made and attempts. 
  • Djessira Diawara scored seven points to go with five rebounds.
  • Rylei Waugh scored six points with two rebounds, two assists and one steal. 
  • The Spartans scored 11 second-chance points in this game.
  • SJSU scored 24 points inside the paint. 
  • The Spartans finished the Puerto Rico Clásico hosted by Puerto Rico College Sports Tours with a record of 1-1.
