CINCINNATI, Ohio - San José State women’s basketball will play in their season opener against Xavier at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio on Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. PT. You can watch the game on Flohoops.
- The Spartans will start the season on the road and then return home to open their home schedule against Cal on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Provident Credit Union Event Center.
- SJSU welcomes five transfers to the team: Amiah Simmons (Alabama A&M), Hennie Van Schaik (Louisville), Rylei Waugh (Pima CC), Amira Brown (Tulsa), and Djessira Diawara (Houston).
- The Spartans also added two freshmen to the squad: Mecca Alexander and Stella Sgro.
- Sydni Summers returns to the court after being selected to the Mountain West All-Freshman Team last season. Summers was a key contributor for the Spartans, averaging 7.8 points on a .351 field goal percentage, and led the team with 60 assists.
- Marisa Davis-Jones also returns to the squad; the Spartan's fifth-leading scorer last season averaged 6.5 points per game and four rebounds per game. She also shot .787 from the free-throw line.
- The Spartans also welcome back Jasmine Singleton, Nailea Nicholas, Sofia Kelemeni, Maya Anderson, Kaliyah Dillard and Finau Tonga to the team.
- Amiah Simmons was named to the Division I HBCU All-America Second Team and All-SWAC Second Team with Alabama A&M last season. She averaged 33.5 points and 2.2 assists per game, averaging .391 from field goal range.
- Amira Brown was a key piece off the bench last season as she played in all 35 games for Tulsa. She averaged 4.1 points per game and had a field goal percentage of .444, which was good for fourth place on the team.
- Head coach April Phillips returns for her third season at SJSU.
