Spartans Drop Tightly Contested Match to Western Illinois on Opening Day

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Will McClendon and Josh Uduje each recorded 13 points to lead the San José State (0-1, 0-0 MW) men's basketball team in a 59-55 loss to Western Illinois (1-0, 0-0 OVC) at the Provident Credit Union Event Center. 

  • McClendon’s 13 tied his career high which he set while he was at UCLA last season against Stanford.
  • Robert Vaihola led the team with seven rebounds and three assists.
  • Vaihola’s three assists was also a career high.
  • Jermaine Washington made his collegiate debut and tallied five points.
  • Washington, Donavan Yap and Chol Marial each made a three in the game.
  • Sadraque NgaNga, Yap, McClendon, Uduje, Marial, and Sadaidriene Hall each made their Spartan debut.

UP NEXT: The Spartans will head to Honolulu, Hawaii to take on Pacific on Friday, Nov. 8 at 6:30 p.m. for the first game of the Outrigger Rainbow Classic.
