SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State's Angel Iniguez was named the 2024 WAC Offensive Player of the Year announced by the conference on Friday. Iniguez was also named All-WAC First Team while Cameron Cook was named to the WAC All-Freshman Team.
Iniguez is the first player to win the WAC Offensive Player of the Year award for SJSU in school history. In 16 games played this season, Iniguez led the Spartans with seven goals, seven assists, 46 shots and 27 shots on goal. Iniguez was twice named WAC Player of the Week on Oct. 1 and Oct. 8 this season, as well. In a match at Air Force on Oct. 3, Iniguez became the first Spartan to record a hat trick since Willy Miranda in 2021. He was also the only player in the conference to score a hat trick this season. Iniguez followed up his performance with two goals and an assist in a win at Utah Valley just two days later. Iniguez's three assists against Grand Canyon on Oct. 31 were also the most assists recorded by any player in the conference in a game this season.
This is the second straight season that Iniguez was named All-WAC First Team. Iniguez was also voted WAC Offensive Preseason Player of the Year heading into 2024.
Cook started in all 16 of his appearances this season. Cook recorded two goals and two assists on the season. Cook recorded a goal and an assist against Grand Canyon on Oct. 31 and a season high three shots on goal in the match.
The Spartans are 4-7-7 on the season and 3-3-3 in conference play. SJSU earned the fifth seed in the WAC Tournament and will play the fourth seed Utah Valley in the first round of the event on Sunday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m in Phoenix, Arizona.
