Spartans Comeback Falls Short in Close Contest Against Nevada

RENO, Nev. - Sofia Kelemeni led the scoring with 15 points while Djessira Diawara added 11 points of her own to lead San José State women’s basketball (7-7, 0-1 MW) in a closely contested 63-59 loss against Nevada (6-8, 1-0 MW) from Lawlor Events Center on Sunday afternoon.

  • Kelemeni finished with 15 points to go with six rebounds, while going 7-for-13 from the field.
  • Kelemeni now has led the team in scoring in back-to-back games and is averaging 21 points per game. 
  • Diawara finished with 11 points with nine rebounds while shooting 5-for-8 from the field.
  • Diawara currently leads the team, averaging 7.1 rebounds per game.
  • Amira Brown scored 10 points to go with three rebounds, and one assist while going 3-for-8 from the field and 1-for-4 from behind the arc.
  • Finau Tonga finished with eight points to go with three rebounds, two assists, and one steal while going 4-for-7 from the field.
  • Sydni Summers finished with seven points and one rebound while going 2-for-6 from behind the arc. Both three-point field goals came in the fourth quarter as the Spartans made their late comeback.
  • This is the Spartans’ second consecutive game with more than three players scoring in double digits. 
  • The Spartans outshot the Wolf Pack from behind the arc, going 4-for-15.
  • Scoring in the paint continues to be a steady trend for the team with 36 points coming inside the paint in this game.
