Spartans To Open Conference Play at New Mexico on Mountain West Network

SAN JOSE, Calif. - San José State men’s basketball will open Mountain West conference play against the University of New Mexico at The Pit in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. PT on Mountain West Network and KTRB 860 AM.

2024 SCHEDULE

  • The Spartans are looking for their fourth win in a row and their first win over New Mexico on the road since 2017.
  • The Spartans are coming off a three game sweep of the Ball Dawgs Classic, defeating UTEP, UNCG and Long Beach State.
  • The last time the Spartans swept an in-season tournament was at the 2011 Elgin Baylor Classic where they went 2-0 with wins over Coppin State and Seattle.
  • SJSU's three game winning streak is the second longest active winning streak in the Mountain West (Utah State - seven).
  • The Spartans are tied for first in the Mountain West in rebounding defense, holding opponents to an average of 31 rebounds per game.
  • SJSU is second in the Mountain West in free throw percentage (.760). Four Spartans, Donavan Yap, Will McClendon, Sadaidriene Hall and Josh Uduje, are shooting above 80 percent from the foul line.
  • The reigning Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year, Uduje, currently leads the Spartans in points per game (15.7). Uduje has scored in double digits in seven out of nine games this season and has scored 20+ three times.
  • Uduje went 5-5 from three and scored a season-high 25 points against USC (11/20/24). Uduje is the only player in the Mountain West to make five three's on 100 percent 3pt shooting in a game this season.
  • McClendon is second on the team in scoring, averaging 12.6 points per game. He has scored double-figures in six out of nine games this season.
  • Over his last four games, McClendon has recorded 17 assists and has only turned the ball over three times.
  • Yap scored a season-high 18 points in the Spartans' last game against Long Beach State (11/27/24). Yap hit back-to-back-to-back three pointers in the second half, igniting a 17-2 Spartan run.
  • Sadraque NgaNga has been an efficient player off the bench for the Spartans. Over his last three games, NgaNga has recorded 27 points and 10 rebounds in 43 minutes of game time.
  • The Spartans are 3-0 since moving Hall into the starting lineup. Hall is currently the only Spartan who is a member of the 50-40-90 club.
  • Robert Vaihola scored a season-high 14 points in SJSU's last game against Long Beach State.
  • The Lobos are 6-2 on the season and are coming off a 83-73 win over USC in the Acrisure Classic.
