SAN JOSE, Calif. - Mateja Bosić, Brendon Gyapjas, Bence Szabo and Maro Tiozzo were all named All-American Honorable Mentions announced by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches.
Bosić led the Spartans in both goals and assists for the second straight season. Bosić tallied 38 goals and 43 assists on the year, contributing a total of 81 points. Bosić also recorded 26 steals and drew 19 exclusions, both good for second most on the team. Bosić was named WCC First Team All-Conference. He was also named WCC Player of the Week (Oct. 29) after he led the Spartans to a 3-0 record at the Julian Fraser Memorial and scored the game-winning goal against No. 13 Harvard.
Gyapjas led the Spartans in net this season, recording 156 saves and allowing only 112 goals. He was also named WCC First Team All-Conference. Against No. 16 Cal Baptist, Gyapjas recorded 17 saves, including the game-clinching save with just seconds left in the match. Gyapjas led the Spartans to their second straight appearance in the WCC Championship, being named to the All-WCC Tournament Team. He recorded 40 saves across in the WCC Tournament’s three games and scored twice in the semifinals against No. 8 Pepperdine.
Szabo led the Spartans with 59 exclusions drawn on the season. He also recorded 31 goals, eight assists and eight steals on the year, earning himself a spot on the WCC Second Team All-Conference. Szabo led the Spartans in their victory over No. 19 Brown at the Harvard Invitational, recorded six goals and drew eight exclusions in the match.
Tiozzo recorded 27 goals, 22 assists and drew nine exclusions on the season. Tiozzo put up a seven point performance in a win over No. 16 Cal Baptist. Tiozzo tallied five goals and five assists across three games in the WCC Tournament, earning himself a spot on the WCC All-Tournament Team.
