Spartans Fall In Hard-Fought Match

FRESNO, Calif.—Darcy Spark led the Spartans with five goals as the No. 18 San José State women’s water polo team finished play at Polopalooza on Sunday with a hard-fought match against No. 12 UC San Diego, falling 13-12.

  • Spark scored two of the team’s four goals in the first quarter.
  • She scored the team’s final two goals of the match, drawing SJSU within one goal with 1:24 remaining in the match.
  • Nynke Willemsen and Bridget Cranley each scored twice.
  • Cranley got the scoring started as SJSU took the 1-0 lead just 45 seconds into the match.
  • Three other Spartans scored a goal – Sarah Woren, Renee Fleming and Rose Jensen.
  • Goalie Grace Smith made eight saves in her 32 minutes of action.

UP NEXT – The Spartans travel to the Lancer Joust next weekend for matches on Friday against California Baptist at 4:30 p.m., and Saturday against UC San Diego at 10:30 a.m., and Whitter at 1:30 p.m.
