Spartans Fall Twice at Polopalooza Saturday

FRESNO, Calif.— Renee Fleming and Bridget Cranley led the Spartans in scoring against Hawaii, and Darcy Spark scored four times against Michigan, as the No. 18 San José State women’s water polo team played twice Saturday at the Polopalooza hosted by Fresno State.

  • The Spartans fell to No. 5 Hawaii, 15-6, in the team’s first match of the day.
  • Fleming and Cranley each scored twice in the match.
  • Rose Jensen and Spark each found the back of the net for SJSU.
  • Tatianna Ruffin got the start in goal, making 11 saves in the match.
  • In the team’s second match, Spark was one of seven Spartans to score in the 15-13 loss to No. 14 Michigan.
  • Spark scored four times, while Nynke Williamson, Sarah Woren and Jennine Osorio each scored twice.
  • Goalie Grace Smith had 11 saves for SJSU.
  • The Spartans took an early 6-5 lead after the first quarter against the Wolverines.
  • Osorio got the Spartans within one goal of Michigan at 14-13 with 2:27 left in the match.

UP NEXT – The Spartans finish play at Polopalooza on Sunday with a match versus UC San Diego beginning at 11:10 a.m.
